Martindales can be set in three different ways to give different rubbing motions by changing the position of the drive pegs.

The top plate must be removed to access the drive pegs. Top plates should be carefully lifted off the drive pegs and removed.

The 1309/1609 instruments top plates are in two pieces. The larger front section must be removed first, then the smaller back section.

The drive pegs can then be accessed and placed in the appropriate position. The drive pegs may be greasy, so disposable gloves or some tissue may be useful.
